Biosphere.

🌱 Taking ownership of life around you.
Biosphere is an app and a system enabling community-led action against biodiversity loss. The app aims to create a sense of ownership over the biosphere, and optimise the vast network or domestic gardens in London through gardening.

The problem.

Biodiversity underpins the ecosystem services that enable human life, yet it remains one of the least regulated resources in urban areas. Habitat fragmentation is the leading cause of biodiversity loss in urban areas, as small disconnected pockets of habitat leave species unable to get the resources they need.

The product.

Urban domestic gardens account for the majority of all urban greenspace. If these gardens are leveraged to create a truly connected network of habitats, urban species will be able to traverse London's fragmented habitats. By using habitat connectivity algorithms and data on the land and species, the Biosphere app will make bespoke recommendations on garden interventions based on location, type of garden, and the other gardens in your community.
